Interesting developments regarding the counterfit cisco networking equipment that surfaced on ebay. A month or two ago I read a story regarding cisco equiptment that was being sold on ebay. The items were actually counterfit but looked and functioned much like the real thing. Now, a few months later, the government has stepped in to try and put a lid on the situation. The theory is that these counterfit devices could have been installed with covert backdoors to allow network compromises once they are put into production. Although I do not believe they have proved such threats just yet, it is just another eye opening avenue that are being pursued for malicious intent. You can read more about this story at the following url. http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread350381/pg1 |

Compiling chkrootkit from source
Today I will be demonstrating how to compile the chkrootkit program from source code. The chkrootkit program is used to check local systems for signs of a rootkit. Rootkits are used mainly by hackers to circumvent the detection of thier presence on your system. They can use rootkits to hide system processes in order to trick system users into believing everything on thier system is fine. This compile will be taking place on a slackware machine that we only have ssh access to. The following will demonstrate how to install chkrootkit. |

Todays Rant will be addressing Eventual Conformity Eventual Conformity and informational influence is happening constantly even right now! All kinds of influences can push and pull and really ruin things I at one time used to enjoy. In this day and age of technological marvel it seems people can't ever be content. In the world of computing things are constantly moving because of the conformists mindset "If we aren't moving we are sitting still and if we are sitting still people are catching up and if they catch up they might pass us and if we get passed we lose our edge". AHHHH! It is amazing to watch the evolution and inevitable pollution of some really great things. If you find a place you enjoy visiting on the internet eventually everyone else will find it too. Once everyone finds out about something they use it all up until it gets turned into something that is not enjoyable at all anymore. Eventually everything seems to conform to become the opposite of what they start out to be. |
